You don't need to become an editor overnight. You just need three or four things dialed in, done the same way every time. Keep this open next time you're editing and work through it top to bottom.

1. Auto Captions - Do This First

Captions are the fastest way to make your videos look more finished, so start here every time.

• Import your clip, then tap Captions in the bottom toolbar
• Select Auto Captions and let CapCut generate them
• Scrub through and fix any words it got wrong (music/slang terms trip it up most)
• Pick one caption style and stick with it on every video - don't switch styles clip to clip. Consistency is what makes it feel like "your" format
• Keep the caption size big enough to read on a phone screen without zooming in

That's it. Auto captions alone will make your content feel noticeably more polished.

2. Basic Color Grading - Two Sliders Max

You don't need a full grade, just a correction. Go to Adjust on your clip and use these two:

• If the footage looks dull or washed out (not enough color/warmth): nudge Saturation up a little. Small movements - you want it rich, not cartoonish.
• If the footage looks too bright or flat, lacking depth: nudge Contrast down slightly. This softens harsh light and brings back a bit of mood/tone.

Rule of thumb: adjust one slider at a time, in small increments, and compare before/after using the toggle. If you're not sure it looks better, you've probably gone too far - pull it back.

3. A Few More Basics Worth Knowing

• Cut on the beat. Where possible, line your cuts up with a hit, snare, or bar change in the track - even rough alignment makes a clip feel intentional instead of random.
• Trim dead space. Cut any pause, fumble, silence or "nothing happening" moment at the start or end of a clip. First 1-2 seconds especially - that's what stops the scroll.
